Firefox + Ad Blocking Issue

Greetings All---It's been a while...
(Windows 7 32bit , Firefox v. 100.00 desktop computer)..

I used Firefox last night with no issues or problems...
This morning, I get on the net and notice that I am getting pop-ups and ads galore!...

I had AdBlock Ultimate and 1 or 2 other 'blocker" programs installed and, now even the icons for same are gone from my tool bar in Firefox!...

After finding no answers, I uninstalled FIREFOX and put an an earlier version which is working -"SOMEWHAT"....

1)....I have quite a few icons (shortcuts) to sites on the web on my desktop.
2)....When I click on ANY of them, I get a message;
"Unable to open this internet Shortcut. The protocol "https" does not have a registered program'

3)....I read (today) a while ago that the "FF" people had some sort of disagreement with the developer of the ad blocking programs and thus the non-fuctionality of same...HOWEVER, being that I have FF set to NOT download or install anything, I am amiss as to how-why they are gone...

Any assistance would be appreciated!

You need to associate a web browser with the HTTP protocol.

Chrome is transitioning from manifest V2 to manifest V3 so some are getting unsupported. I run chrome and one got disabled the other day because it was unsupported as of that day so I had to switch. I used Ublock origin so now I'm using regular Ublock and its working so far.

THANKS FOR THE REPLY!

Well, how then, do I make that association?...(directions?)...

I will attempt to use regular ublock but, I have to get this 'association" fixed...
I may have to find the version of FF I had and re-install....

ohh, before I watch the vid, I keep selecting "Firefox as default browser" and it doesn't indicate that it is, even after clicking the selection button...will watch vid now...THANKS FOR THE REPLY!

EDIT:
I just followed the directions and find that there is NO FIREFOX...
SEE PICT.

Each and every ad blocker program, when clicking add to FF, I get:

**I MAY HAVE TO UNINSTALL ff AND GO BACK TO WHAT I HAD....

I get this for any ad blocker I click on...Possibly due to "association" issue?

It's because they are probably blocking most of the ad blockers because of the new engine they are using.

And it doesn't help that you are using windows 7 that has been unsupported for over 10 years now. There is no guarantee you'll get anything to work correctly. I'm not sure if any browser still supports windows 7 because of security issues.

Download and install the latest version of Firefox and try again. If it don't work then you have some issues to work out.

UPDATE -

While driving to the store this morning (03-17-2k25 USA) a thought came to me---yeah, that occasionally happens...(grin).

What about a RESTORE POINT or, a REGISTRY BACK UP I made?

A few minutes ago, I made a restore point indicating that there was an icon display association issue just so I would remember it....
Then, I selected a RESTORE POINT (from 2 days ago) and "let 'er rip"....

The icons still looked the same but, DID function!....

As to your advice, I did the "association" in control panel and, all APPEARS TO BE WORKING!!....

I JUST HAVE TO PUT IN MY SAVED BOOKMARKS AND SOME ICONS IN THE ff BROWSER GUI...

Everything appears to function...

I wish wholwe-heartedly to thank you for the assistance and patience with me and this issue!

Thanks for the reply!

I didn't see this come in before I typed my last response...

There are a lot of ad blockers out there but it all depends on the browser and its support. As the browser updates its manifest engine less and less blockers will work unless they move the newer manifest version. FYI, Windows 10 support ends October 2025 so you have 7 months left.
