hey guys i'm having trouble with sharing files between my desktop and my laptop...so heres the thing...i was able to share files between my computers wirelessly by setting my folder options to "shared" and i was also able to use the remote desktop to acess my desktop from my laptop...that is until a few days ago this all changed...i dont kno what happened but no matter wat i tried my laptop wont let me access my desktop even tho the computer name is right. i've tried pinging my desktop in command prompt...when i use the computer name...it'll come back with nothing but when i use the ip address...it shows that it can detect my desktop...i was just wondering if anyone can help me fix this problem

i have a antivirus program on my laptop and i use mcafee and i dont think thats the problem because when the file sharing did work...the mcafee was there too

Just try disabling both, or bette ryet... try turning them off. It can't hurt. If thats not the problem.. make sur eboth are in the same workgroup. Then try to connect manually with the ip address or name ex. \\192.168.2.1 or \\computersname

This is the wrong idea... Try to figure out whats wrong, then fix it. Sounds like you have a firewall or antivirus program stopping it.

the reason i said do a system restore is because he said nothing about changing any antivirus software, he simply said it randomly quit working. so system restore might correct the problem because it will change back anything he inadvertantly messed up.

hey trizoy i actually did try to connect with //computername...but it said the pathway cannot be found

And when you say computername you mean the computers name on your network? Not literally "computername"... If you did put in the computers name then it sounds like something is blocking you from connecting. Have you updated your computer via MS website? Turned on the SP2 firewall?

yea i used the desktop's computer name not "computername" and i dont know if i updated my xp yet...but i should go do that now
