Fan powered by Mobo

Hey everyone-

I have this fan for my PC case-

It's plugged directly into the motherboard, which is this one-

Anywho- two questions:

1) is there any disadvantages/problems plugging fans directly into the board?
2) why does my 120mm fan occasionally stop spinning? If i give it a nudge, it starts right back up? is it defective or is the mobo not powering it correctly?

thanks-

1) You mean the 3-pin connector? It allows you and the motherboard to adjust how fast it spins.

2) Don't know, sorry.

1) As stated above, you can usally adjust how fast it goes(depending on your mobo...) or simply view how fast it's going.
2) My guess it that it's trying to go too slow. I know I've had some 120mm fans that got awfully hot after running for a bit. I'm sure it's not exactly easy to spin such large blades...

where do i monitor/change fan speeds, other than with SpeedFan program?

i dont think you can do it with windows, you need softwear, like seedfan.
Speedfan works great, i love it,
Chris
