Fan fluctuation and noisyness...

For some reason, after turning my PC on this morning i discovered a rather perculiar noise. Not sure if it is Harmfull mind you?

I know it is a fan that is making the noise. Although i havn't cleaned the case out yet (which i will do) im not sure if it is another problem.

i have 2 case fans (akasa blue led)

i have one cheapo Power supply 9not sure what make but im plannin on getting a better quality one)

My grpahics card and mobo have fans.

The noise seems to be louder at the back of the case which makes me wonder if the PSU is going funny, but i cant be sure if the noise is coming from the Graphics card?

Please note that it only seems to make the noise when i first turn the PC on after about 5+ hours of leaving the power off (I think this might be because of the charged transistors, if so then its prob the PSU)

anyways, the PSU is 480 Watts, heres what my system mobo returned after finding the power outputs:

case temp 30 oc average
processor temp 35oc average

2500rpm average /
3500rpm average / / indicates mobo, sytem fan speeds
8000 rpm average /

CPU VCORE 1.4V

+3.3V -- 3.29V Average
+12V -- 11.91 Average
+5.0V -- 5.07 Average

Battery = 2.92V AVERAGE
+5VSB (System Bus?) = 5.13V Average

Not sure if i need to upgrade the Power supply, looking into it :D

So back to the initial question, can anybody help?

-- can get other specs if required...

thanks in advance, wedge554..

You really need to isolate the cause of the noise.

Power supply and processor fans will sometimes make
noise on startup then the noise will go alway. This is
usually the first size that the bearings are going and
the fan will need to be replaced.

I suggest you remove the side of the case and try
to isolate the noise. You can sometimes tell on the
processor fan because it will seem to speed up then
slow down. If it is the processor fan it will need to
be replaced. If it is the power supply fan, you can
usually run it a while. If it fails the power supply
will eventually burn up.

You can temporarily unplug the case fans to see
if they are the problems. Don't unplug the processor
fan and I would not recommend unpluggin the
video card fan.

okay, ill try what you said, thanks!

- problem i have at the moment is that the noise will only happen when the pc is turned on after about 5 hours of being off. once turned on and turned off, then re-turned on again its not there anymore? - well not until 5 hours later!

if that makes any sense?

- so what would i have to do if it was the graphics card??? can i replace the fan?!

depends what graphics card, but yes, replace the fan is possible... oh and it doesnt really matter about unpluggin the fans or not, for the 2 seconds yuou wait to see if the noise goes, it really isnt going to heat up much.... if you dont fancy plugging and unplugging things, the simply place your thumb on the center of the fan to stop it for (dont do it for a long period of time thoguht, 5 seconds max)...

well, actually guys you can talk technical if you want, im a technician. :D

I think the real problem is related to the ammount of dust, although its reletively clean?

- like i said, i can only do it occasionally because of when it occurs, i guess ill have to try it tomorrow.

BTW, the noise doesnt subside, it just lingers for about a minute getting quiter. But the good news is nothing has smoked yet!

lol, is there any fan that is noticeably more dirty than any others, anything that could be in the way, rattling etc... im sure youve already checked stuff like that....

draogn

*EDIT* - oh by the way your PSU is undervolting veeerry slightly, its still inside the acceptable +/-5% but still, its still an undervolt. I mention this because you mentioned getting a new PSU.

thanks for the undervoltage advice!

- checked inside the case this morning, the graphics card fan needs to be cleaned out, for some reason after i turn the power on and off and the graphics card fan has stopped i can hear like another fan slowing down inside it?

anyways, i just need to clean the northbrisge fan and the graphics fan, i think it was gettin dusty. I cleaned the cpu fan and the heat dropped 7 o :|
