Extra processing power over LAN

On a LAN, is it even possible to use another computer's processing power for applications one computer is running? (To tell you the truth, I really don't think it would work... the speed at which a LAN runs at is nowhere near what a motherboard is running at, especially over a 10/100Mb/s LAN.) But there is a chance I might be wrong.
Thanks

ive heard of that before..
i believe they call that a cluster don't they?
MUCH more efficient than dual core processors ive heard, but the cost is much higher obviously since it would cost thousands of dollars to get all the computers.
'tis the same concept though, for instance the extra processing power would have NO effect in gaming whatsoever... but if you're doing like synthetics or rendering video then yea, clusters are great.
