im trying to connect two computers directly (lan port to lan port) using cat 5e crossover cable but i keep getting "limited or no connectivity" flashes from both pcs. any help on establishing FULL connectivity? i can still access files on each computer over the line but i cant transfer anything or share my internet connection. help would be great

thanks

I think you have to set it up under internet connection sharing on the host computer (the one the internet is plugged into) use the network connection wizard-

ive configured the firewalls on both computers to accept incoming traffic.. it shouldnt be a problem there.

also ive run the wizard several times now, enabling internet sharing in the program, using different corssover wires and it simply doesnt work. when i use an in-room router, the computers connect fine but they wont connect regularly in a direct-connect setup. i would use that router regularly but when i hook it up it takes precidence over my internet bearing router and i lose my internet connection.

go to network connections, double click the lan network, click support, and tell us what the ip address is. it should be 192.168.x.x for a good connection, or some crazy numbers for a bad connection

it says "limited or no connectivity. you may not be able to access the internet or some network resources. this problem occured because the network did not assign an address to the computer". the same message is displayed on the other computer. when i click on details under that message i am given: physical address - 00-11-43-67-18-42 ; ip address 169.254.230.110 ; subnet mask 255.255.0.0 ; the default gateway, dns server, and wins server are all blank.
