Ethernet Cable Question

I'm going to wire a cable across my house to connect some things in my room to the gateway on the other side of my house. The cable is going to be ran through the attic and is going to come down into my room.

I've heard many different types of Ethernet cable and I want to know the best one to use. I'm pretty sure right now I'm going to use Cat 5e but whats all this stuff I've heard about stranded cable, patch cable, standard, etc. Which is the best one for me to use?

I did that very same thing two years ago..I used a 100' piece of CAT5e cable that I got from tigerdirect. Just standard cable.
Patch cable is just a short length to "patch" two items together...not really a special type of cable.

Like a strong signal of something. Maby a high bandwidth transmitter or anything that could disrupt a signal of some sort.

hmm well would UTP cable be okay to run through an attic. It won't be close to many other cables except maybe phone cables which shouldn't do anything to it. There will only be one point where it will come into contact with any other types of cable.

utp will be fine. if you want to run it along with electrical cables, or over fluorescent lights (which i doubt you have in your attic), then you would be good to get the shielded stuff. just regular cat5e utp is the standard wiring for a project like this.
