not sure if this is allowed here.
can anyone suggest why my printer will not print when i try to print something from one laptop but prints ok if i print from a different laptop, honestly i am pulling my hair out as i cannot understand it, i have reinstalled the driver but it still wont work

How are you connecting to the printer? Is it shared on another pc or wirelessly or usb?
 
Click on start, run, type services.msc and hit enter. find print spooler and look at the status.
 
Has it printed in the last few days? If so, you can do a system restore back to that day. Have you installed any new software or hardware lately?
 
it hasnt printed for weeks, ive been onto a couple forums to get help but seems no one can figure it out. i havent installed any software as far as i can remember, i tried a system restore, but for some reason there are no restore points on the computer, only recent ones ....since the problem occured, im not sure why i didnt disable them
 
Running XP I assume? If you go into the printers and faxes folder and hover over the printer icon does it say ready? Double click on the printer to open the printer que, are there any print jobs listed? Its possible the first one got stuck and it won't print until all the print jobs gets cancelled.
 
Ok, something weird is definately going on here. I used to have this issue years ago and the only fix was to reinstall windows. I'm on my way out to run some errands and will reply later. I'll do some more searching on this and get back to you.
 
ok john,
one odd thing is that if i set something to print then restart the computer when it restarts it prints the item concerned, its almost as if the computer checks the ports and finds something sitting there to print and does it.

sorted it, i cant believe it, the problem was i had it set to show a print preview but the print preview doesnt come up on screen so i couldnt ok it, so it was sitting there waiting for me to ok the print job. im not sure why the print preview isnt showing up on screen but ive removed that from the process and it prints everytime. thanks for all your help

Glad to hear you figured out the cause. Most likely you just need to reinstall the browswer you are using if you are printing something from the web.
