I have an EchoStar PSU in my computer.

Specs:
Dual Fan
680W
+3.3V--45A
+5V--50A
+12V--22A
-5V--0.5A
-12V--0.8A
+5Vsb--2A

It's got overload protection.

I don't see much mention of this brand. I bought it from the local computer store--back when I didn't know 1/2 of what I know now. Which, BTW, still ain't much. :o

Is this PSU decent enough?

I've heard that having a cheap PSU can lead to unexpected shutdowns and reboots. I'm having problems with my rig now. I've been blaming it on my cheap GeForce 4000MX 64bit video card with a paltry 128mb DDR400.

But, I've been reading here (PSU101), and I'm now wondering if I have a POS power supply.

Can anyone comment on this PSU? I know it's not top-of-the-line. But will it work okay?

I'm running it on the rig in my signature. I just bought a 7800GS with 256mb GDDR3 Ram and 256 bit interface. 16 pipelines. 1280mhz clock. Best AGP 8x card I could find. Am I gonna have to upgrade my PSU to pump this video card?

Sorry for all the silly questions. Can ya tell I'm worried about it? :o :confused:
 
I don't know what else you have in your computer but It may be best to get a PSU that has at least 30A on the 12v if you want to try and prevent random restarts and other problems.
 
I can't believe 680W isn't enough. It just seems like a huge PSU.

But, if you guys think I need one with +12V 30A--then I'll look into it.

Any recommendations--or just go to newegg and find one that matches those parameters?

Look for good brands like Enermax, Antec or Ultra and watts aren't everything you should look at when you're buying a PSU.

It's not always about the wattage. If you have crappy ampage then you arn't going to get enough power to your video card (and believe me, your 7800GS is going to be power hungry!:) )

Try an Antec. Found this one on newegg. It has modular support and 36A on the 12V rail which is plenty. I'm going to be buying this PSU or the step above for my soon-to-come rig.

EDIT: Chris Chan, sure that is a hell of a PSU, but look at the price tag! Not all of us can drop $140 on a PSU! :(
 
Very nice PSU I would have to say.

38A on the 12V rail is so much! I might actually check into this PSU instead of the Smart Power Antec I was checking out...

I was in the same situation as you--looking at the smartpower and the nuuo. BTW, I think its cheaper at zipzoomfly. For ~80$ it is a very feature rich PSU. Get the nuuo, Chris.
 
I've seen this PSU before at Altex. They have it selling for 140 USD! Man do I love newegg!

38A should be enough to power anything! Then again, 36A isn't bad at all either...

I think I might just stick with Antec and go 15 bucks cheaper. I just want to know that I have a good solid PSU and Antec give you one every time you buy from them :D
