I want to set up my old pc as a music server tied into my surround system. All the music will be housed on it. What I need to do is be able to not only access the files remotely, but be able to control the player. It currently has windows 2000 on it. I thought about just using a remote desktop, but everything I found says that you can only connect FROM a non XP box TO an XP box with the downloadable client. Is there an easier way to do this besides back office or terminal services? The plan is to have it all wireless so I can control it with my laptop from anywhere in the house.
 
well...i did some digging and I can get XP pro for free from my school as well as 2003 server in all three flavors. So that's most likely the route i will take.

Any advantage of running server 2003 instead of XP?
