Why would they bring out a new Direct X that didnt work on basically all graphics cards.

And to the original question, you can install DX10 but you wont have the hardware features such as SM4, Geometry shaders, etc. You cant "hack" that either, because those features arent built into the card.
just a question.. whats the etc? iirc SM4 and geometry shaders is all thats new in dx10, no? ofc i could be wrong.

DX10 cards are out, but DX10 games arent out yet.so i have a direct x 9.0 card should i get 10.0 when it comes out or should i just say forget it? this sounds like when directx10 comes out its gonna suck after i download and install it and stuff i currently have a geforce 6800 xt and i wont be upgrading to gefroce 8 no time soon
As others have said, and as you probably know, you can install DX10 but you cant take advantage of DX10's new hardware-related features.wow, i didnt expect so many responses. I did think the DX10 would work with old graphic cards, I was just wondering about, that someone did answer, the new features that DX10 would probably have that wouldnt work with DX9 cards. So thanks
