I'm having diffculty playing a commercial movie.

The video playsOK with almost any player software but I can't hear anything.

In NERO SHOWTIME ESSENTIALS, I can do just that. In InterActual player, it does just that, but it also tells me that there is an ERROR in my sub-audio system. --- Run audio tests.

So, I go to run, type in DXDIAG - go to the sound card and run all the tests.

EVERYTHING comes out ok but still -- no audio.

Now what?

sounds like a dodgy program. interactual player is ancient, try using windows media player, VLC media player or Winamp.

Sound

I have at least 5 different playback application, none of them will play the audio portion.

something about "ERROR 4014"

"This error can occur if support for the DirectSound component of Microsoft DIRECTX is either not available in, or not supported by, your audio cards drivers. To correct this problem it may be necessary to update either DIRECTX or your cards driver."

Even VLC doesn't work?! Have you tried that yet?

Update your audio card drivers or re-install them.

the problem looks like DirectX - Get the latest version, along with video and sound drivers. DirectSound is part of directx

DVD plays - but

Yep. I think U R right. My tech stafff thinks that is also the problem. They R looking at it as we speak.

Thought - We're going to put a Logitech webcam on there later this PM. Do U think I'll have audio issues with that as well.

You shouldn't have a problem with video from the webcam since your main issue as described so far has been with audio. I suspect the issue you are having playing back commercial DVDs is with the AC3 decoding.
