Dual soundcard issue

Heres my issue, I am using two soundcards on my HTPC, the onboard soundcard and my Audigy 2 soundcard. The reason for this is that if I use the Audigy as my input and output I get a humming sound in my speakers. If I could figure out why im getting the humming I would just use the Audigy, but my idea was to use the audigy for my speakers and use the onboard for my input. Ive installed the drivers for both and in my recording devices options both show up but if I select the onboard input I still only get input audio from the Audigy, if i plug it into the onboard i dont get anything.

Hi Ukulele Ninja,

I had Audigy 2 many years without any humming sound, I actually made some music with it.
Is it possible that the humming sound comes from your mic? Or is your "what you hear" on?
You probably checked that already..

I have not checked the 'what you hear' yet but i will try that. Also, Im not using a mic, the input is actually coming from the audio output from my tv.

if you plug it into the onboard and no humming than its the card obviously
so that eliminates them
it may be a bad ground on that particular card
try it ina different slot or on a different computer if its still on that other computer its your card
if no humming than its the motherboard you are using has a bad ground connection on that slot

alternatively i use to have a power supply for my amps that would hum everytime my bathroom light was on OBVIOUSLY it was bad wiring but try a different outlet for the computer

Look man, you cannot use two soundcards at the same time. Secondly this is a common issue. I have quite a bit of experience with Creative cards.

  1. Set a restore point.
  2. Download the latest creative drivers for your card to the desktop - don't install yet.
  3. Uninstall the current creative drivers and use driversweeper to remove any additional fragments.
  4. Shutdown.
  5. Ensure you install the Creative card in the PCI slot furtherest away from the CPU.
  6. Restart and disable onboard sound in your bios settings
  7. Restart in safe mode (tap F8) .
  8. Install the downloaded new Creative drivers.
  9. Restart

Post results.
