DSL Slow

Hi,

Wasn't sure where to post this question, so I decided to post it here. My daughter lives in a large home. She has ATT DSL and uses a wireless router. The farther away from the router the slower the internet gets. If they use two laptops at once it's even slower. Is there anything she can do to strenghen the signal? Some kind of signal booster? I think centering the router in the home should help some.

Any comments, suggestions, or recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Is it a separate modem and router or is it a single modem/router combo unit? What speed package does she have?

So obviously there are no external antenna's on the unit. You can hook up another wireless router up to it to extend the signal. There will be a little bit of configuring to do or you can try getting a wireless repeater. How big of a house is this? Is it 2 story or just a single level?

The house is around 5,000 square feet living area. Single level. The router is in the office which is in opposite end of the kitchen and dining area where my daughter hangs out alot.

Is a wireless repeater a signal booster?

Thanks!

A repeater actually takes the wireless and regenerates it(makes it stronger) and then sends it out farther. Or if you have a basement or crawl space, you can wire up another router where your daughter usually is and get good signal that way.

Hi johnb35,

How effective is a repeater and how much does it strengthen the signal? What brand do you recommend?

Thanks!
