there are free programs that will update drivers for you, but more often than not they are tripe, they aren't worth the drive space they take up.
To find out what video card you have (i am assuming you are using windows) do the following:
click start>control panel
If you are on
Vista then click device manager and finally open the display adapters tab, that will show your video card
If you are on
XP click system, click on the tab called hardware and then click device manager. Finally, open the display adapters tab and that is your video card
To get the driver update google the card you have and then drivers, so for example i would put in "8600GT drivers" and then click on the nvidia site and the drivers should be there. If it is an ATi card then click on the ATi site.
The device manager shows everything in your system and you can update your drivers once you know what the stuff you have is.
If you want to know if your drivers are out of date or damaged go to:
http://www.drivershq.com/
click download, install driver detective and it will tell you what drivers aren't there or messed up. It is, as i said above, rubbish at updating the actual drivers, all of the software designed to do that task is, but it is good at telling you if it is out of date.
