So I've seen just about every single driver website and yet I haven't had succes, and it's driving me around the bend. My computer is giving me an unknown device, (my soundcard) so I used the unknown device scanner to find out the brand etc. and it turned out to be an Intel 82801 EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller. I can't find a driver for it anywhere, and the one driver I did find is giving me an install error. Also I'm running a asus intel socket 478 p4p800.
Help will be appreciated!

You actually have a soundmax device. Go here and enter the following into the 3 boxes.

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

1. motherboard
2. socket 478
3. p4p800

and click on search. Select your OS when the box comes up and then click on search. Click the plus sign next to audio, click on the global icon under soundmax and enter the text you see and click on submit to get the download link and install it.

Thanks for the link, but it still isnt working. I entered all of the pc's details on the website, entered my OS, downloaded the sound software, ran the setup, and then I got the error: Driver not found, reboot your system and run this setup again
ideas?
thanks

Thats the correct driver though, If you have installed any other driver software, uninstall it and then try the new driver setup again.

I've just deleted the device from the computer's list, rebooted, then it told me it had found a new device, so I had a go at trying to install it that way, but it didnt work, so i cancelled it. Then I retried the installer from the link you sent me, and it's still giving me the same error. maybe it's broken?
Also I was wondering wether there is a driver available for download which isn't an exe. but a driver file that the windows new hardware installer can use?

EDIT:

How did you find out I actually have a soundmax device? and any idea what model etc. it is?
