Hello, I have a question regarding IP addresses and downloading torrent files... If the MPAA catches you downloading a movie via torrent, and knows your IP address, does that mean that every subsequent time you download a movie via torrent they can monitor and catch you? Or is it a one time/per basis thing? And how safe is using proxys to download files? Thanks,

~Tim

Yes your IP is out in the open each time and even if you use a proxy to update the swarm every person you connect to on the actual download sees your IP. Also all ISPs keep lifetime logs on your connection so when the courts finally win they will take those logs and prosecute you to death. So nothing protects you as your busted on both ends of the fence.

So really in the end its cheaper as most fines are $4000-$10000 or jail time which I prefer to keep my money and not get dog piled by Bubba nightly. I highly suggest you keep this in mind :)

I think this will help, especially the 8th point down and the bit after the heading starting with "software"

This bit is also relevant:
