Download Speed Problems

Hey all, I am having alot of trouble with my download speeds. Right now, Azureus is downloading between 0b/s to 1.9kb/s which is painfully slow  . I run windows xp on a inspiron 600m laptop. I have a cable connection with a max of 100mb/s. I share said connection with two other desktops but neither of them download anything ever. So i really don't know what's wrong... Are there common problems that would cause this? do you guys need more information? Thanks.

You can only download as fast as someone will upload to you... And you dont have a 100mb/s download speed.. thats your LAN speed. your WAN speed is probably 1.5mb-3.0mb...

It is the uploader, find files which have a LOT of seeders.

I think you're just getting weak seeds. How many torrents do have working and is it happeneing to all of them? What's your up to download ratio. Some trackers will slow you down to make the 1.0 ratio.

I only am downloading one torrent... And there are ALOT of seeds, I will always be downloading from 5 sources. Also the Azureus health icon says there might be a problem with my NAT... And yea i realize it's not 100mb/s but i still would hope that it will exceed 1.9 kb/s heh. Thanks for the responses all.

This is what you do.
1) Check if firewalls are blocking the software or the PORTS
2) if you have a firewall, type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 in the address bar in a browswer
3) Try to find port forwarding and check which port that uTorrent downloads with, open that port.

If you can reply what is the style of router u have or something, i can help you better..

That's if he has a router, he never said anything about having a router. What do you have as your upload capability. Your DL speeds usually determined by how much you're Up loading. If you set your upload speed all the way down or a low number you won't get good speeds.

That doesn't mean anything, some torrent trackers are buggy and will say that there are lots of seeders and sometimes there is not. Other times it will say there is no seeders and there are many.

If you are behind NAT then you are on a router, there is no doubt about that. Make sure the port is forwarded for your torrent client in the router. Once that happens your router will give the app carte blanche on downloads and uploads from that app. Just make sure you set up the port to use in your torrent client, then use that same port in your router setting.

1. Make sure you give yourself a set ip address for you computer such as 192.168.1.105, 104, etc. This will ensure that it's never changing so you don't have to reconfigure the port in your router setting all the time to match your ip.

2. Check Azureus' port setting and see which port it uses. I believe the latest being something like [SIZE=-1]36233 or something. So check those out and write it down or something.

3. Next, go into your router settings via the ip address, either 192.168.1.1 or 0.1 instead. There, find the settings for port forwarding. Open the port 36233 (as an example if that was the one). Save settings and close.

4. When all is done, check the tracker also. Some works, some don't; some is private, some aren't. So this can determine it's validity and what-not also. Additionally limit your upload speeds depending on your connection type.

Okies. A few things:

One, I am using a router, a Linksys Etherfast.
Two, I am also experiencing slow downloads from reliable servers.... like everywhere on the net.
Three, a friend of mine with the same connection, a different router which he was allowed to set up while my computer-retarded father insisted on installing mine, and connects it to five computers (three more than I use) experiences download speeds of 500KB/s... while i get 20kb/s at most.
Four, that friend of mine lives in Queens while I live on the upper east side of Manhattan, an area i would assume has better connections than Queens would.

Cable modem users can expect from 1000 to 3000 Kb/s,

Download speed: 244 kilobits per second

Test details: 171 kilobytes downloaded in 5.628 seconds.
Receive buffer size: Not available

So, have you taken up on any suggestions? Or, are you just still trying to hope it'll work eventually. Everything you just said doesn't matter at all if you don't configure it correctly.

If you have, what suggestions have you taken up.
