Does this seem fair?

Is this worth it? Laptop for Desktop Trade?
I was recently offered to do a trade. One of my friends says he knows someone who is willing to trade the following laptop for my desktop:

His:

2003-era Laptop, compaq presario 2100
Intel Pentium 2.0Ghz Processor
1GB PC2700 Ram
60GB HD
CD-RW/DVD-RW with Lightscribe drives
On Board Radeon 512mb Grphics card
15.4"Ultrabright screen

The only downside I see is that it has the windows xp ultimate installed, I would prefer an actual copy of XP home or pro, 3rd party isn't my thing.

Here is what I would be trading:

Gateway ESSEX2 - Circa 2003 (VIDEO, RAM UPGRADES SINCE NEW)
Celeron 2.40GHz Processor
40GB HD
1GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (I also have the GeForce 4 mx 440 in case he wants that instead, it runs faster but doesn't have pixel shader capabilities. This computer originally had integrated graphics but that part died on my so I installed this in the AGP slot)
Windows XP Home
DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive
probably include my old dell monitor and a set of speakers, keyboard, and mouse (I actually have plenty of spares, so no big deal)

I have been looking around for a laptop but with $50 I can't get much, so I figured I wasn't losing too much on this deal. I hardly use this PC except to occasionally play TS2 when my sis is on the better computer. I could really use some portability especially since I am going to college in a year, and I know I will not be able to afford a laptop then. So is it worth it to trade? What are the pros/cons?

This was originally noticed through a craigslist ad, I have never used it before, so I'm not sure how reliable people can be on it.

The presario 2100 isnt a half bad notebook, its not the fastest notebook in the world and the toshiba hard drive in it isnt the greatest, but for the age of your desktop id say its ok.

Windows XP Ultimate though...never heard of it, it sounds like a pirated version to me.

Yeah, I did some research on it and this is the article I came up with http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1464183/windows_xp_ultimate_edition.html?cat=15

I asked if he had an XP installation CD or something, maybe I'll go with Linux, I suppose it shouldn't be too hard to make a switch like that. I have XP installation CDs but unfortunately they are for Dell PCs only, so I can't use it on the Compaq.

Linux runs well on the presarios, the wifi can be a pain in some distros, but in the "idiot proof" distros like ubuntu it works fine.

Yep going to be a well trade I agreed with footballstevo75. And always its better than a Celeron Processor. Anyway I am new here So hi to all of you. How is everyone doing?

Ya I'd say that's a fair trade. It's a Pentium what? 4?

I was never a fan of the celery processors anyways.

The processor is a pentium 4M I think, That is what they came with. Any major difference between the two? What is the comparable P4 clock speed, non-ht? I have a desktop with a 2.4GHz P4, how much faster is that than the Pentium-m?

Pentium 4-M has a slower FSB than the desktop pentium 4, and itself is somewhat slower. Due to the age of both processors though, the difference in speed is negligible. The only thing i would be worried about is the fact the presario only has integrated graphics(IGP340 or IGP345M iirc)

I was looking at a few sites while waiting for a post here and found a benchmark test that ranks the pentium-m as high as a 3.06GHz pentium 4. Are we looking at two different processors?

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/common_cpus.html

The two I am looking at are very close to the bottom of the page, Intel P4 3.00 and right above it is the Intel PentiumM 2.00. Is there a difference between pentium m and pentium 4m, maybe I confused myself there.

You are right about the graphics. What kind of performance can I expect from that, will it do well enough to surpass the GeForce 4 MX 440 (AGP8x)?

Yeah id say its a good deal :),Depending on what condition the laptop is in.

I received another interesting deal, actually I am wondering if there is something wrong with it since it is much better.

Here's what the listing says, the guy emailed it to me:
SILVER AND BLACK,14.5 SCREEN,1.5 GIG BITES OF RAM,INTELL CELERON PROCESSOR 520 @ 1.6 GH,OPERATING SYSTEM VISTA HOME BASIC,MICROSOFT WORKS PACKAGE,32 BIT OPERATING SYSTEM

I looked up the processor on a benchmark site and found that the 1.6 celeron m runs faster than a 2.4 p4, so it is a huge improvement. What do you think?
