Does this mean my sound card is bad?

My sounds been behaving strange- on occasion a problem won't launch with sound, and once my sound just cut out. Also, in Ventrillo, I can't hear anyone else, though they can supposedly hear me.

I'm wondering- is there anything other then a bad sound card that this could be? Also, I think it's onboard- won't I somehow have to disable it before putting in a replacement?

i would try a separate sound card to rule it out. To disable the onboard sound you will need to enter the bios and disable onboard audio.

Yes, sound works for EVERYTHING else, and everything's updated. It's odd- in World of Warcraft for instance, I can hear all the in game sounds, just not others in my party speaking, though they say I'm loud and clear.

I'm guessing I'll just end up putting it in the shop.

Well, oddly enough, I found that this one time plugging the headphones into the back solved the problem. It didn't work before.

Even more odd- after that it worked with them plugged into the front. I think my sound card is just working on and off.

By the way- how do I tell if my sound in on board or not? I see a card in my mother board which I can't identify, and I'm not sure if it's something to do with my internet or a sound card. I know it's not the graphics card.
