Does this build look ok??

This is my first post on here and I'm not sure if this fits in this forum or not.

I've decided to try and build a new computer and have finally arrived at the components I think I'll use. My next question is, would all of these things work alright together, and do i have enough power??

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 LGA775
Motherboard - Gigabyte EP45-DS3L LGA775
Video Card - Sapphire 4830 (still might go 9800GT though)
Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro (too much cooling??)
Memory - Corsair XMS2 6400C5 4GB DDR2
Hard drive - Seagate 1TB 7200.11 Sata2
Samsung DVD drive
430W power supply in an Antec case (500W is also available...)

I intended this to be a pretty good gaming computer. NOthing crazy high-end, but was trying to get it on a budget (at which this is over by $10).

Haha you can never have too much cooling :P

It looks good to me but if your going to upgrade to the 9800 I would suggest the 500W psu;)

That's what I was going to say, well the cooling part anyway, those exact words.
Get the 9800GT, Nvidia is sponsered by most games and plus they can go 16QSAA not just 8 in most things.
And yes, the 500W.

Thanks for the replies and help!

One more question though. A friend of mine mentioned that the motherboard is an ati crossfire motherboard and therefore the sapphire video card should be used instead of the nvidia one. Does this make sense to anyone? I would have thought that either would be fine to use...??

Either card will work fine. The Crossfire/SLI compatibility thing becomes a factor only if you plan on linking two video cards together for more graphics processing power.

After talking with the wife, she's thinks that maybe we should use some of our old components to try and save a bit of money instead of trying to sell the "old" computer. Sorry to ask about this stuff again, but i'm new to putting computers together!

The problem with our computer is that we have a slim case, which makes it difficult to orient things in there. This is what I have and what I want to end up with.

Have:
Slim case with 300W power supply
P5QL-EM motherboard (LGA775)
4GB DDR2 Corsair RAM (6400)
3.16GHz Intel duo E8500
Integrated graphics card (intel G43 chipset)
DVD drive and 1.5TB hard drive

Want to do this:
This computer has some nice things and I think i'd only really need to upgrade the graphics card. But it will not fit in the case, neither will a slim card (because of the orientation).
- Need to get a new case (i guess with 500W power supply)
- Get a new video card (9800 GT or the Sapphire one mentioned above - Can also buy a used, 1 month old 4850 from a friend for about the same price)
- I think I can keep the rest

Is it possible to do this? Get a new video card and somehow bypass, or turn off even, the integrated graphics? How straight-forward would it be to do this and also move the components from this case to a new case with a new power supply?

Should be a straightforward move and will give you more options for future changes. You will need to disable the integrated graphics in the BIOS setup, but other than that shouldn’t be a problem.

I built my PC last month. I was going to get 9800GT ($150CAD), and I ended up getting the BFG Nvidia 9800GTX OC+ ($200CAD). I think it was worth the extra $50.

I specifically recommend BFG as the manufacturer because it comes with a lifetime warranty (make sure to register your purchase with them within 30 days). Other manufacturers of the graphic card only give a 1 year warranty.
