Does it matter if the Wireless router is a different name brand then the wireless pc card in my laptop?

Example...I have a linksys wireless router that supports 802.11b and G, but I have a NETGEAR wireless pc card in my laptop (802.11b). Is it possible to configure the two components to work together?

How in windows 98?

it doesnt matter, your wireless card should detect the network as long as the drivers are installed.

No, it won;t matter at all, just follow the instructions which came with both your products, then you should be able to connect wirelessly :D
My network is completely made up of different brand products, a safecom modem, sitecom router and belkin wireless adaptor, and have never had any trouble with it

Do I need to also install the drivers to the router on the laptop?

no, and also make sure your network card/ router are of the same type (i.ei 802.11g and 802.11b). some network cards dont allow both, but msot do!
