Hello. I would like to replace the program that runs explorer.exe at system startup with something that would limit the computer to only using the desktop and shortcuts located on it. Is it possible to download desktop.exe for Windows 8.1 or another launcher for only desktop? I want to change the running program using regedit in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_Software_Microsoft_Windows NT_CurrentVersion_Winlogon by changing the .exe file in value Shell.

desktop.exe is not a thing. The entire navigation GUI is explorer.exe.

What is your end goal? There's likely another solution to what you want to accomplish.

I would like tocreate a console from my computer that will be able to run game shortcuts and mp3 songs that I have on the desktop, blocking access to any other computer options, and above all blocking access to viewing files on disks (I hid the disks in ThisPC and deleted Open File Location from Desktop Icons using regedit, but the Open File Location option still remains available in the start menu) I can't list all the things I did to achieve my goal, but the result is still unsatisfactory. All the games I have are offline, I don't use the Internet on my computer. I once found a topic on another forum where it was presented how to replace the main shell of the computer with another program (notepad.exe, taskmenager.exe) and then I thought that maybe there is a program that would only use the desktop, which is what I care about so much.

Even the shortcuts that sit on the desktop utilize explorer.exe so what you are trying to do won't produce what you want anyway.

Is it possible at least to block access to the search option in Windows Menu and Charm Bar? Only from there I can't remove the OpenFileLocation option. Optionaly I would like to disable the ability to open the start menu, where is the search. I want to completely block access to files on disks and the only loophole left on my computer is Open File Location in the search option in the Start Menu/Charm Bar. I read somewhere that disabling the "Windows Search" service disables the search engine in the start menu, but after disabling this service on my Win 8.1 it didn't change anything.
