Does a server case exist for what I want to do?

I want to connect my satellite receiver and TV projector/screen to my computer or server?

My intention is to be able to add and expand the most amount of Harddrives within this computer/server? case possible.

I see that many of the mid/full tower cases only have capability of expanding to about 7 expansion slots- which I imagine means 7 Hard Disk Drives. But I want to know if I can buy a server case? or whichever type of case necessary, that can store the greatest amount of movies/programs/shows recorded directly from my TV? Maximum storage of TV shows on my computer/server?

Is there a case for servers that can do this? or what is the my best option?

Oh, I see your question now :o. It has been a long day.

Most server cases are always going to have more expansion capabilities than regular ATX computer cases. It depends on which form factor server case you buy.

This http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811112064 Lian Li server case has 12 hard drive bays. All you have to do is find a motherboard with as many SATA ports as there are bays or you can add on some SATA controllers if you wanted to.

Expensive case

Wow, that is expensive. I can't really justify spending over $300 for just the computer case, when simple but good mid-tower cases which hold about 7? HDD bay slots are $60.

I'll either have to figure out a way to connect 2 cheap computer cases when I max out the 7 HDD bays or search for a cheaper server case, if one exists.

Is it possible to get a case that looks like a stereo system with a lot of hard drive bays? I think its called a media center case. I know the prices on these cases are much cheaper, but if the expandability is no better than a $60 mid-tower case, then can I just stack another media center case on top when/if I fill all the hard drive bays and use all the hardrives as one computer?

You probably will not be able to physically connect them via the SATA cables because you would run out of room, but you can setup a simple SAN (Storage Area Network) with those boxes and tell the video capturing computer to write off to one of those boxes over the LAN/SAN. This means that each box would have to have a processor, memory, and everything else a computer needs in order to make them work with a decent config in mind for networking and storage. Also, upgrading the network to gigabit would be a must so you don't bottleneck anywhere. You basically would be making a storage server farm.

A storage server farm?

Sounds pretty cool. Dont really know what it means, but I think I like it.

What exactly is it though that I would run out of room for? Hard drive bays in the case(s)? or actual space? "not be able to physically connect them via the SATA cables because you would run out of room"

As far as "upgrading the network to gigabit would be a must so you don't bottleneck anywhere" A gigabit or gigabyte? What are you talking about? not the hard drive? those 500GB easy to find.

Upgrade the network to a gigabit? Upgrade the network to a gigabit? No, I dont understand that. What is that my internet connection? AT&T has a max of 6 Megabytes. Please explain that bottlenecking idea?

So get a external storage addon. Promise Technology has a external fastTrak that holds 12 drives and connects to your pc via scsi320. You can use sata but the connection between the controler and external tower is scsi.
