Hi all

It seems tha most of the routers now have a firewall built into them as standard. Someone bought my mum a wireless Vodafone dongle so she can get broadband on her laptop. Do dongles have some sort of Firewall built into them in the same way that routers do?

Thanks for reading.

Hi tremmor

OK thanks for the prompt response.
Just taking this a bit further, would it be possible to plug the dongle into a router and allow other wireless users to link up to it (just like normal broadband) whcih would have the added advantage of the router firewall?

If you wanted to share the internet connection with other wireless devices, you would want to set up an ad hoc network using the laptop's wireless card, and then bridge connections between the Vodafone connection and the ad hoc network. Then other computer could connect to the wireless network you just set up and use it's internet connection, no router required.
