Since I started computer building three months ago, I notice that mail in rebates are very common.
Personally, I hate them. In 2002, I bought a computer that had a $30 mail in rebate. I sent it out, and my check never arrived. And at that point I hadn't even any proof to sue the company. The company was MDG Computers in Canada.
Nowdays, when I see there is a mail in rebate, I intentionally buy a competing product. If I look around, I can even find a competing computer shop which has an instant discount on the item, rather than requiring me to mail it in.
What has been your experience with mail in rebates. How often were you duped, and how often did they pay out?
