Do PC-controlled power outlets exist?

Hi everyone!

Lately I've been thinking of controling stuff in my house from my PC, that is not IN my PC! like, lamps, for example. It can be useful as part of a webcam surveillance system for example.

The simplest (and cheapest) way seems to be to control a power outlet. Then I can plug any device on the outlet, the PC will control its activation. No need for a USB Lamp, for instance, if that ever exists. I want to avoid the expensive gadgets sellers...

Technically, it seems that it would be pretty easy to build, so it must exist somewhere for cheap, but I haven't found it. Does anyone knows of a power outlet with a PC wiring? I'm thinking of a normal power outlet, but with a USB plug in addition (or any other PC connector).

Any help and suggestion would be appreciated :)

Yea, I don't like spam either. I don't find my message is a spam though, only borderline: personalized message, only posted here, and I truly think it's a cool service to share. But you're right it's not obvious, I will add a disclaimer; thanks.

That said, all this has nothing to do with a PC-controlled power outlet... and my two posts are not related whatsoever. I am still interested in anybody has ever heard of such a device.

i saw this in a pop sci magazine once, i swear. all the outlets came together and were controlled by a USB port in the wall. it was in the first stages though
