do i need windows network program(wireless)

hi,have 3 pcs all on win xp run from netgear rp614 v2 via ethernet cables,i
want to add a laptop that has 802.11b wireless connection.i do not use windows networking software as i find it a complete pain in the arse,when i change router( to include 4 ports and wireless )will i have to use network software,or should the router and the laptop just find each other.is there much difference between netgear or linksy routers as i have found that my netgear is very easy and trouble free.

i guess it would be cheaper for new wireless router that an wireless access point?

You can choose to let INdows or the program that comes with the wireless card in the laptop look for the signal.
