I probably don't have good enough speakers anyway, but I have a Biostar MCP6P M2+ Motherboard with "6 Channel HD" integrated sound. Is it any good?

I have decent speakers, 2.1 with a badass sub. I was wondering if the integrated audio card was any good, because it seemed like in the packaging for the mobo, they were really flaunting the "RealTec HD".

What speakers are we talking about exactly? Generally 2.1 systems uses tiny satellite drivers and boomy subwoofers to cover up the lack of midrange. Chances are you'll see more improvement in sound quality by purchasing a better speaker system.

These are older than windows95 era speakers. They are altec lansing brand and are beige. They do lack a bit of mid range, but I think they were expensive in their prime. My dad got them, I didn't buy them. Pics:

Jesus....!

You won't notice any improvement with a dedicated sound card. It might sound a tad "different" at first, but after 2 minutes you'll be tuned into what ever difference it has brought, and won't notice it again.

For me, I'd only buy a dedicated sound card for gaming performance reasons. If I was buying one purely for sound, I'd buy an external one anyway - the less audio near the various parts of the computer the better imo.

As the others mentioned those things are rubbish! Spend your money on a good set of speakers and you will notice a BIG difference.

They're bad because we're talking about a 10+ year old pair of speakers with probably 3" drivers and a 6" subwoofer (if you can really call it a sub woofer). Go to a local store and pick up a cheap pair of Logitech 2.1 speakers and they'll most definitely sound better. If you want to spend more for a better system better for music look into a promedia 2.1 system or M-Audio AV40 or Audioengine 2 or 5s.

Just an update:

These speakers have still been running fine. I picked up a pair of rock bottom low price logitech speakers for $30. They sound horrible compared to mine, you might not belive me, but these speakers are really good. I ran the sub through some online tests and apparently it's pretty legit.
