I purchaced an Asus P5B motherboard that has 8 channel capability. It all plug ins for all speakers and a sub. I put a computer together which is working out fine after me having a few problems with it (naturally).I dont happen to have a decent 5 piece speaker setup yet so I just plugged in a cehap pair temporaritly. Is this board supposed to mean I dont need to get an audio card? Wouldn't an audio card have the same ports for speakers that I already have? Please inform me about how I should handle this.

Yes and audio card does have the same ports for speakers as onboard sound. If you want better sounding sound than get a dedicated sound card like an X-fi xtrememusic they are pretty good.

I find the integrated solutions to be adequate. I mean I'm a gamer as well and the quality is ok, I think you would only need cards like X-Fi is if you are a musician or something and you need to record music from an external source. Otherwise I can't see the cost of such cards to be justified.
