Do I need a soundcard?

Hey just finding out what I need to get next month, and among the other items on my list is a soundcard. I wondered if it's necessary though, cause i'm told my motherboard has "SupremeFX X-Fi 8-Ch audio with EAX Advanced HD 4.0 support" built into it. I'm wondering if this will be okay for purposes of watching movies, gaming, and listening to music. Can I get by with what my motherboard has, or do I need a seperate soundcard?

What speakers do you use? Unless they're really nice speakers then you most likely won't notice a difference. And I'm pretty sure the "x-fi" on your motherboard uses software emulations instead of a real x-fi chip.

They are some old e machines speakers that I got with an old computer. Some guy on youtube was sayin the onboard sound is something by VIA, but covered up with a Supreme X-Fi sticker. If it's true, that's really shady to do to your customers, but i'm sure the sound will be pretty great none the less.

You won't get great sound with any sound card paired up with cheap E-machine speakers. And I don't think it's just a sticker, I think it's your standard run of the mill HD audio with X-fi software emulators, kind of like the X-fi xtreme audio.

Stick to your onboard sound card, just as good as any external sound card and buy your self some decent amplified speaker set up.
