So i have one computer on a wired conncetion and three comps on a wireless connection. I'm wondering if my internet quality would go up if i turned off all the other computers. Even though they are not used they are often left on. Does the idle computers take up internet bandwith by just being on??

the only thing i can say is, yes.

the only thing that will use up bandwidth when a ocmputer is idle is

Any antivirus program
Help and support service
IPSEC service
And all remote services,

that about it, even when these services are sctive the bandwidth will be in the 1% - 3%(maximum)

generally theres always something using the internet if its not updates or some other program, something will probly be getting used. To avoidd this you could well just unhook there ethernet cords, or even log off there computers if you dont want to turn them off.

As others have said, the idle computers may take up a small percentage of your badwidth by programs running automated updates, sending/receiving small bits of information, or other things of that nature. If you shut down the computers, you may see a slight difference, but most noticable in game lag or average download speed. If your just browsing the web, your not going to notice a difference unless the idle computers are always downloading updates.

Just disconnect from the internet, you don't even have to pul the cords from your NIC. Simply disable your network connections, and when you want back on, enable them.
