distorted sound / echo

can anyone help me please i have distorted audio(choppy)...sometimes one sec of it plays multiple times. I bought a new motherboard KT880 but i'm still using the same CPU. i tryed everything, when i changed the sampling rate or bit depth it works fine for a little while but then its all the same again.
please help someone !

i dont think my CPU is 2 slow cause i never had thsi problem on my previous computer using the same CPU.

Windows XP
AMD athlon XP 3200+
2x 512 GB of ram
gforce FX 5700
SATA/150 100GB 7200RPM harddrive ( could this be a problem? i use it as my boot drive)

on second thought....anyone think it could be cause i might not have DMA mode activated on my hard drive ( its kinda slow).

Did you install this new motherboard, without reinstalling windows? If so, your chipset drivers will be incorrect, as well as other drivers for that system.

do you have eax enabled? computer generated 3d sound?
