I want to actually plug in my machine to an Ethernet cable, but since my room is down stairs, I can't have a Ethernet cable get to me... Any suggestions?

Your only options are somehow run a cable down there or buy a router that is capable of becoming a repeater/extender and then you can connect a ethernet cable to it or you can just go wireless. Because basically you will be losing speed because of the wireless between the 2 access points. Your second router will need to be compatible with ddwrt. I have it setup between the main router in my living room and a repeater in my bedroom. No wires, except from repeater to dvr and blu ray player.

Why dont you buy a Powerline kit..They're actually pretty good.

Something like
TP-Link AV500 500Mbps

Hmmmmm, would that really make a difference to a signal though?

Um and ^^^ amplifiers only boost wireless signal strength, nothing to do with Ethernet, or am I wrong?
It wouldn't, it's just another means of getting a network connection to your device. He stated he couldn't run an ethernet cable to his PC, so his solutions are wireless or powerline adapters.

30mbps, what about you?
He was asking because if you had for instance, Google Fiber with a 1Gbps connection you'd be limited by the speed of wireless. With only a 30Mbps connection, 802.11n or 802.11ac is fine if you can get a decent signal.

Well, honestly I don't know what speed I am paying for, and I have not even heard of this power kit or something. Are they worth it? I mean, I don't have a lot of money, and I don't want to buy it, then it being crap. I need to know what is reliable, and what is effective. I can't run a cable through the walls. I wish I could, but I can't.

Stick with wireless then, as long as you aren't too far away from your wireless router.

If you don't know what speed you have, look at your cable bill and see what program you are paying for. Or call them up and ask them. The phone number is on your bill.
