Did Comcast just double their internet speeds??

I know for sure we used to get 6mbps download, but lately its been really fast. I just looked at the most recent bill and it said 12mbps. And best of all, I'm actually able to download that quickly, its not some inflated number thats rarely attained.

So yeah, anyone else have this happen? I'm hoping its permanent... it would suck going back to 6 :(

I've noticed my speeds going up from the time we got our service (2 years ago) It went from about 10 Mb/s down and 1.5 up to 20 ish Mb/s down and 3 up to 20 Mb/s down and 7 up

We didn't change our plan but our speeds keep going up!

Right now they are trying to boost their speeds as Verizon FiOS is entering many of their service areas to compete...

FiOS is extremely fast - faster than cable. I wish I didn't have to sign a contract with Comcast when I moved here since no other ISP was available otherwise I'd definitely move to Verizon FiOS. :(

Wait, comcast does not have you sign a contract. I even asked them if it was possable if we could sign a contract to get a lower price, but they said they don't have any contracts.

Exactly...I am getting FIOS when a move in the next 6 months. I transfer well over 250gbs a month.

The fact they cap us like that then bring out their new 50mb line is total bull. "250gb is crippling us so lets bring out a 50mb line"

I hate Comcast...problem with FIOS is their contract sucks....but no bandwidth cap and faster upload speeds = happy me. They just recently got added to my area or I would have went with them from the start.

Also @ brian
There are contracts but only in some areas...in Little Rock I got a 10% discount when I signed 1 year contract.

Yes, Comcast has been updating speed tiers one market at a time for over a year now.

We have/had 6Mbps for over 2 years, and they recently (beginning of December) upgraded our market, so it's now 12Mbps with Powerboost (so 15Mbps max), at no additional cost.

Here's a speedtest I took after they upgraded us:

Pretty impressive for a 12Mbps connection :D

My Comcast guy said that they went "wideband" in many major cities, which increased speed for everyone. I have 22mbps down now for only $30 a month :).

$30.00 high band is a sweet price. I also have comcast and happy except the price. over $50.00 a month in michigan. they do and enforced a cap a few months ago.

Yeah, we got a sweet deal cause Comcast was trying to steal Verizon customers in my area. It's not a promotional price either, it's guaranteed as long as we remain their customer.

i wish i could even get speeds like that, especially at prices like that, we pay something over 70 dollars a month for satillite internet :(

Satellite internet sucks for games^^ lol and i heard that if you downloaded over cirtain limit it slows you down to dialup speed and once i move i'm getting Fios or Comcast one of the 2 i mean $30 for 23 mb/s download and 6 mb/s upload is a pretty good price

Hmm, seems like Comcast isn't at all consistent, but, does anyone know if my internet upgrade will be permanent?

I do live in the Portland area, a fairly large city, so perhaps they have finally upgraded us?

I would have to say yes, it should be permanent. I can't think of any reason they would temporarily give you a speed increase..
