Hi anyone knows how to disable the DHCP service?? I've assigned IP numbers manually to all computers in my wireless and cable network including my DSL connection then I disabled the DHCP client service. My LAN still working properly but my DSL connection stop working unless I start the DHCP client service back. Can someone explain to me why?? How can I disable the DHCP service so that others who join my wireless network without my authority won't get any IP address?

Make sure the IP and subnet of the LAN side of your router jive with the IP's/subnet masks of your LAN boxes.

Are you using a router? Your sld modem should have a static IP, assigned by your ISP, from there you can assign your computers manual IP addresses on your network, they wont be static though. Your best be it to use a router, from there you can set up IP's or set up a manual dhcp range for set ammount of devices.

Here's what you do, buy a router and leave dhcp on. On the computers set their ip's statically and don't worry about it. If the ip address of the router is 192.168.0.1, set one of the computers to 192.168.0.2 and the other to 192.168.0.3. The subnet should be 255.255.255.0. Default gateway is the router so that would be 192.168.0.1. The DNS server would also be the router (at least thats whats on my router). You shouldn't have anymore problems.
