Destroy or keep HDD?

So I now have 2 old Dell desktops.

1 Dell Dimension 8300

and 1 Dell Optiplex GX620.

Since I now have a computer, should I destroy or the harddrives and then recycle them?

There's nothin personal on them. I'm thinking this is more of a personal choice for me.

You could always securely wipe the drive and just leave the computer as is, and either put it in a swap pile at the dump or put it in the electronics dumpster, there's really no reason to physically destroy the components.

As stated I'd just wipe and keep. A working old drive is better than destroyed components unless you were just going to chuck the entire system. At that point I'd probably consider donating it somewhere if the system works reasonably still.

Yeah. Both PC's work fine. I used the optical out of the Dimension and I'm actually giving the Optiplex to my friend because his aunt needs a computer. 80GB HDD's in both.

Kept the Dimension's HDD and PNY 8400GS and it's going to be "eCycle'd" at my local goodwill. :)

I will say that using a crow bar on a hard drive that's on a clamp is fun. Prying it apart, seeing the shiny disc inside, then smashing it to bits with a hand axe. And maybe driving over it.

Not that I would know anything about that... (don't judge me I got really bored over the summer)

So that's what people in Kansas do for fun
