Desktop or laptop?

Hello

I was just wondering if desktop in general has better performance than laptop if it has similar or slightly lower spec than laptop. I heard that the CPU in laptop performs worse than desktop but does this matter a lot?

Hi welcome to CF. :)

What exactly do you intend to do on your computer..Gaming?..work related stuff? or just general computing like Email and internet etc?

As for your question to whether a desktop in general has better performance than laptop,Yes in most cases but this all depends on your budget and what your going to be using the machine for.

If you are just surfing the web, a laptop may be cheaper and more portable. For gaming, either shell out 1500 bucks for a gaming laptop, or build a 800 dollar desktop

Would've thought a laptop would be the obvious choice if you needed portability but more power than a typical tablet. I think it boils down to that really.

And yes, laptops do have weaker CPUs than desktops. That's because they have to run on less power (running on battery and saving power to maximise battery life) and also because CPUs get hot and cooling in a laptop is limited. So in general, yes, desktops do have better-performing CPUs.

It depends on your habits as well as your budget. If you're kinda into gaming and your budget does not allow you to buy a capable laptop, then it leaves you only one choice.
If you do have the budget to buy a reasonable laptop, I'd go with that since you'll cherish the portability of it.

Note: Pure and badass performance can only be found in desktops. Laptops are getting stronger these last years and are quite capable of playing games at medium settings, but for great gaming performance, the price/performance of the wanted laptop will be close to zero.
