Dell Netbook

Hi,

The battery has died on my Dell Netbook (Inspiron mini10). I can't get it running at all, even on the mains. I do the following procedure

Remove battery
Replace battery power led lights up
switch on powers up windows
after some seconds shuts down
led goes off
i have done this several times with the same outcome. Will this model only run with a working battery or is there a problem? Any ideas?

Thanks

are you saying with the power cord plugged in it will not work also?
Thanks for your answer,

Yes. With the battery removed the led is off. When i replace the battery the led(power) come on and the machine powers up. After just enough time for windows to start up the machine goes off completely and the led goes off. If i removes the battery and put it in again the led comes back on but it never stays on. even without starting windows (bios access) the machine only stays on for a few seconds, maybe a minute.

Does it get really hot before it shuts off?
Have you tried reseating your RAM?
Is the power cord working and plugged in correctly?

That's the thing. Without the battery in the laptop doesn't seem to get any a/c power. no led, start up. I've never seen that before on any other laptop. Do Dell make sure you buy batteries buy working in some kind of cut out switch when the battery is old/weak? Could be me being cynical.

I'm not sure, but all the laptops I've had were fine without the battery, including the Dell I'm using now.
Are you sure the voltage on the charger matches what it says on it? Because one laptop I had would do the same thing and it turned out that the voltage was too low on the charger to power it without the battery.

Well this is a new power supply but the problem began with the original p/s. It's one that plugs directly into the wall with the plug molded onto it. The original p/s had a led which now blinks instead of shining brightly. The spec is the same on both 19.0v/1.58amp on the output. the input is a bit different 1.0amp on the old and 0.8amp on the new. Now I wonder if the old p/s has caused a spike and damaged something on the machine/battery when it started to malfunction?

I ordered a replacement battery for which paid extra to get in 2 working days only to be told that it is actually coming from China (2 weeks) then I get it in 2 working days.

I don't know if it did cause a spike. Possible, though I think it's rare.

Maybe the jack is broke where the power supply plugs into, someone gave me a labtop that i had to resolder the jack onto the board and it worked after.
