Decided on new PC build, comments please :)

OK so after weeks of research (I knew nothing about current technology before I started) I think I've finally decided on a build for my new PC. But because my knowledge is a little limited, I'm worried that some of the components I've selected may be incompatible. Also, if there are any general comments I'm more than happy to hear them, obviously I want to make sure I've got this right before I spend the $2,500 :P
So here are the components I've decided on:

CPU: Core i7 920
Motherboard: Asus P6T
Graphics: Radeon HD4870x2 2GB
RAM: 6GB Corsair XMS3 (1333MHz)
HDD: Caviar Black 1TB
Case: Gigabyte 3D Mars
PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W
Optical drive: Undecided

Regarding the optical drive, are there any particular recommendations? I figured I would just pick one up while I was in the store buying the other parts.

The cooling that comes with the CPU should be sufficient if I'm not overclocking I assume, so should I only consider alternate cooling options (non-stock parts) if I decide to overclock?
Also, when putting the system together, will I need thermal paste or heat conductive gel or whatever it is? Is there a particular brand or something that is recommended?

yes everything will work perfectly fine together and will all fit in and be powered alright.

As for an optical drive, if you can afford it (it is only an extra $20 or so if you do this) i would recomend getting a DVD reader and a DVD r/w, so 2 seperate drives. This is because DVD r/w drives have lower read speeds than a DVD pure reader, so you would use the reader to install your stuff, rip music, programs etc, and then use the writer just to burn stuff. If you aren't that fussed about making it a bit faster, just get an all in one.

All are pretty much the same and drivers are easy to come by, they are usually installed automatically beceause they pretty much all use a generic driver, so any make or model will be fine.

The stock heatsink will be fine if not overclocking, if you decide to OC, then you will need a after market cooler.

I would recomend getting thermal paste too yes, if they sell it in the shop you are getting your stuff from i would recomend antec, just about any will work fine but silver compound will work better, it has better thermal conductivity, wipe the stock crap off, it is good for filling the air gaps but is rubbish as far as the actual conductivity goes

OR I'm a fan of having two burners, that way both can do both :)
