I ran the Network setup wizard to share my wireless network from my laptop to my wireless-less desktop. Set it as the host and the Internet gateway. Then I ran the wizard on my desktop, and set that as the client. File sharing between the two sort of works. I can transfer files from my laptop to my desktop, but not the other way around (I can't see my laptop in "My Network Places"). Both recognize that the crossover cable is plugged in, and my desktop says that "Wireless on [laptop]" is connected, so it knows it is there, but it can't access the Internet. On my laptop, in Network Connections, sometimes the internet gateway shows up, sometimes it doesn't.
My laptop runs XP Pro SP2, and my desktop runs XP Home SP2.
Could the problem be that I'm connecting both through a docking station and then disabling the laptop's network port while enabling the dock's?
I don't know anything about setting up networks other than connecting the cables and running the wizard, so please, if your solution is technical, please make it as detailed as possible for this helpless n00b.
Thanks
