Crossover Cable...

Hi,

I recently bought a crossover cable to link my computer and my laptop. I thought I could maybe figure it out from myself and tutorials on the internet. Unfortunately while I was working around I messed something up. Now when I set them up, my laptop or computer does not appear in network places, depending which one I'm on. For example I'm on my laptop and I can only view my laptop shared files, or vice versa on the PC. The connection shows up as alright, and I deleted the accidentally made bridge. What next?

Thanks.

i'll tell you a simple way to do it
first of all make sure PC and lap are in the same IP range
second subnet mask is identical on both sides
then connect the cable
and go to Start-Run and write the IP of the other computer
\\10.10.10.10 (just an example for an IP)
that's it

If I were you, I'd just go into network settings, and configure the networking cards myself. The desktop could be IP:192.168.1.1, Subnet:255.255.255.0, and the Lappy could be IP:192.168.1.2, Subnet 255.255.255.0. No need for a DNS or gateway.

They need to be on the same workgroup (My Computer > Properties > Computer Name).

Also make sure only one of the computers has the Computer Browser service running in services.msc.

Hope this helps.
