Creative Headsets, Which one?

Hi all,

Im getting a new Gaming headset as mine broke :/

Ive heard quite alot of good things about the Creative Sounblaster Arena but then i found they had a Fata1ity version?

Im asking which one is better? They both have the same specs? but one costs £30 than the other..?

I think the reason is down to the Fata1ity headset having 3mm jack connection and the originals USB?

I'm un-sure can anyone add to this?

Thankss! :)

I actually own the Fata1ity MKII set, and think it works very well. Nice sound, comfy padding that surrounds my entire ear (I guess this may be different depending on ear size, but the cans are pretty large in size), detachable mic is cool so you can use the set as just headphones when needed.

I haven't had a problem with this set. Looking at the specs, like you said, they seem very compairable (actually, they look to be the SAME thing, except one has the Fata1ity name on it and the other has a usb connection). I'd save the money and get the MKII. Hope this helps. :)

Oh thanks man :) Just as i was about to purchase the originals :P

May aswell go with the MK's now :)

^ I have the Fatal1ty headphones but the original ones. They are pretty nice too but I recommend getting the ones with the jack rather than the one with the usb because the usb sometimes runs into audio driver issues. Other than that, they are excellent and comfortable because the padding is velvet. :D

Noooooooooo!

Headsets like these provide both inferior audio quality and positional audio to a good pair of stereo headphones with a large sound stage.

Exactly. the logitech headphones i thought were good for $25 were completely blown away by a pair of old phillips heapdhones from circa 1980 that my dad picked up for $1 at the flea markets.

Also, it's worth noting that 3.5mm Jack > USB...

If you use a USB device for audio, all the audio processing is done on the device itself, which would obviously provide audio quality far inferior to the sound card's.

Sooo, you'd be suggesting...............?

In that budget, depending on music tastes, JVC RX900s (closed back, fair amounts of bass), Sennheiser HD555s (open back, not much bass, more for Classical/Acoustic music than anything else), ATH-AD700s (pretty much the best headphones for gaming at a decent price point. There are others too, but I'm no audio expert.

If you look around anywhere on the internet with a smattering of audio knowledge, my words will be backed up. ;)

I do agree, those all seem very nice. However, they lack an important part to the gaming headset FairDoos is looking for....a microphone. So, while I'm sure we could suggest several stand alone mics to go along with your suggested headphones, it defeats the purpose since FairDoos is asking about two Creative headsets w/mics.

FairDoos: I still say out of the two you're looking at, go with the MKII set. :D

Zalman Clip-On mic gives much better audio quality than a headset's microphone I've ever used. (Some Razer ones and the Logitech G35s.)
