Creative 5.1 speaker system only working on 2.

Hi guys
I am pretty new to the building game and have just built my second system. I recently bought a 5.1 speaker system for the PC I built but I can only seem to get two speakers working at any one time. I contacted creative and the told me my motherboard might only be able to run 2 speakers. the board is a EVGA 680I sli and I believe it can run up to and including a 7.1 system. How do I get into the sound options on the board to config the 5.1.

Does the motherboard have orange, black, green and silver audio ports? If it does, and you've plugged it in right, are you on vista? Some driver companies (*cough* creative *cough*, dunno if that's your sound card company, but a few others as well) are really really lazy and haven't made fully functional vista drivers yet. So even thought i have a logitech 5.1 on my vista computer, while playing music or a movie, only the center, front left, and front right, and sub work, but to test it out, go play a game (cs or something) and select 5.1 sound and see if it works or not.
 
Thanks. yea I am running Vista and the speakers are creative. I have a green orange and black jacks and I have the plugged into the corresponding ports on the motherboard. I will try looking for new drivers for the motherboard to update the on board sound .
 
I am having the same problem. I just got a new computer from DigitalStorm with a Nvidia 680i mother board, Creative Labs Audigy SE (up to 7.1), and Logitech 5.1 speakers.

Only my front two speakers and the Sub Woofer work.

So I should check and see if Creative Labs has updated drivers?

I updated the drivers for Vista but it did not help.

i heard most ppl with vista have problems with their onboard audio on their mobos, like me , i had to buy a sound card, so u might wanna do that

I have a Creative Labs sound card and still have the problem. I tired to reload the sound card's software from CD and it stops half way through the load. So no luck here.
