Create a Lan game?

Ok, I have 2 computers hooked up on a cable connection threw a router. Both computers are very similar as they have Windows Xp Home and their hardware does not differ much.

Athlon 2800+ and Athlon 64 3200+
120 - 200 gig hd
512 - 1 gig PC3200 ram
Ethernet cable connection
Logitech Optical Mouses
Logitech Speakers
Geforce 4mx - e-Geforce 6800 8x
LCD monitors
Netgear router
Combo drives

So, I got all the games installed on each computer and now I am lost. I just fixed up the older computer, so I've never done this before. Any step by step guide would be great.

What game are you trying to play over the network? You have to create the lan game in the games setting, usualy there is an option for this, depending on the game.

Well.. for a test game, I used this free online shooter called Soldat. Lots of people play it online, so I would think Lan would work great. There is a lan option in the create game menu, and thats checked. On the other computer, I search servers by lan and nothing comes up.

What do you mean by forwarding the port? Maybe thats the problem?

umm not for a local lan game...
Thats right, if your operating the game server within your LAN then there is no comms with any outside web server. No port forwarding will need to be carried out. The game works by communicating to other pc's via their internal IP address, not the external/public one.
