Crap Connection

So i just had a pretty good gaming pc built for me. Its my 2nd pc which i use strictly for gaming and the family pc is downstairs which contains everything else. The downstairs pc has a router which sends a wireless connection up to my pc (ive gt a little plug in aerial in the back of my tower). Problem is the connection upstairs is ridiculous/verging on pathetic. Whenever the downstairs pc is on, then my pc upstairs basically dies. Connection just finnishes and then itll re-connect for about 1min and then die again. Even with downstairs pc off i still have a few issues, not as bad but still cant expect any decent game time without getting the odd disconnect here and there. This never happens downstairs either, connection is really solid which is why i assume its something to do with the connection from downstairs comp to my comp upstairs. Any1 else having the same issues or can help? Its driving me completely ape shit, any feedback would be appreciated thanks.

I doubt you are connecting from the pc downstairs cause if the pc downstairs was off, you wouldn't get internet. You have to be getting a wireless signal from a wireless router. Either you are too far away from the router or you have a bad wireless adapter on your pc. You may want to try updating the driver for your adapter.

thats right yeah, theres a mini plug in aerial on my downstairs router and theres one upstairs too in the back of my tower. i dont think distance would be the problem, the two comps are basically about 3 metres away from each other. ive updated the adapter too but it doesnt seemed to have worked... any other suggestions

Move the modem/router upstairs and let your family use the crappy wireless while you get the ethernet connection :)

What OS is on the gaming PC and what is the encryption on the router?

IF the encryption is WPA/WPA2, change it to WEP 64 bit, not as secure but will assist the connection.
