crackling sound during any type of graphics intense activity

Hi, my speakers are giving me a very annoying crackling sound during games and video playback. The crackling gets worse when I enter full screen mode. I'm using an nvidia 6200 for video and a Griffin iMic as my soundcard. I have the latest drivers for my graphics card and griffin's website said that I don't need a driver for the iMic.

Is there any reason you're using this rather than an internal sound card? You're probably putting too much stress on your PC and it's having difficulties keeping up. USB has a fair amount of overhead compared to say a PCI sound card. Plus, I suspect something like this is more "emulated" and powered by the CPU where as a regular soundcard can fend for itself.

The reason is that I'm using a mac on this machine as well and the iMic was the only soundcard that I could get. I see your point about having the sound card process the signal. I should probably get one. My only concern is that I don't want to switch my cables everytime I boot into mac.

WOW! today, I got Soundblaster Audiology for $15! NO MORE CRACKLING! I also got a cable that puts the iMic and the Soundblaster into 1 set of speakers. This has just made my day!
