Crackling DVD'S!!! DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

Now I hope this problem can be solved because it has been bugging me for about a week now.

Whenever playing DVD's (in WinDVD) with 6 channel sound turned on, the audio has a loud crackling behind it making it impossible to watch. But when I switch to 2-channel sound its fine. I tried many DVD's and tweaked some settings in WinDVD and the only usefull thing that I found was that when I switch it from DirectSound to WaveOut the distortion decreases (reduced to a few clicks and pops but still incredibly annoying and unwatchable) but the centre channel becomes incredibly quiet and barely audible, even at the highest volume.
Nothing like this happens for MP3 playback.

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME BEFORE I GO CRAZY

Specs:

Athlon XP 2400+

Audigy Gamer Sound Card (latest drivers)
Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers

That happens to me too, while watching DVDx with Win DVD. So you think it is the base and treble??? i will try that tonight :D hope it worls it was getting me so crazy that, i was just about read to change soundcard!

Turned down bass and treble... No change. Still distorts and crackles badly. Its strange that it does it only on 6 channel... 2 channel is fine... HMM....

Any other ideas?
