Now I hope this problem can be solved because it has been bugging me for about a week now.
Whenever playing DVD's (in WinDVD) with 6 channel sound turned on, the audio has a loud crackling behind it making it impossible to watch. But when I switch to 2-channel sound its fine. I tried many DVD's and tweaked some settings in WinDVD and the only usefull thing that I found was that when I switch it from DirectSound to WaveOut the distortion decreases (reduced to a few clicks and pops but still incredibly annoying and unwatchable) but the centre channel becomes incredibly quiet and barely audible, even at the highest volume.
Nothing like this happens for MP3 playback.
