Pretty much the title. I have FLACs which I've spent the time ripping and putting tags on, but I've tried using formatfactory to convert to mp3 before and they lose the tags. I'd prefer a free solution.

Why would you wnat to convert FLAC to MP3? You do realise FLAC is superior quality? It's lossless, whereas MP3 is lossy/

Maybe he wants to put it on an ipod or something ;)

Though I bet theres a flac player for ipod out there somewhere.

Apple have their own lossless format ALAC, he could just convert the FLAC to ALAC, i'm pretty sure you can do that from within itunes.

Ah well you learn something everyday. I knew they had a format, but I didn't know they would let you convert from flac.

Yes I realize FLAC is superior why do you think I'd use it? MP3 is just an easier file to work with plus the majority of my library is MP3 so I'd like multiple copies.

I still need to find some sort of music player that can automatically choose the higher quality of the two files when playing. I still use WMP so I mostly listen to the mp3 320 copies anyway...

What's the end result you're trying to achieve? Music on a mobile device? How much storage space will be available?

There's a $10 program on the apple store that plays FLACs on iDevices. I use it.

I'd recommend Winamp, or Foobar. They'll play just about any format you can imagine, and if they don't support the weird formats like .APE then you can just grab a plugin.

I've used Winamp prior to building my computer, I just never got around to putting it on my machine. Is there a way to make the program check if there are duplicates of a song, and play the higher bitrate one?
