Hey,
I keep getting these constant random errors every time i try to install Vista or 7 by booting from the CD. Two of the errors were: 0x0000007E 0x0000004E.

This is a newly custom built computer.

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66GHz
Gigabyte Motherboard
ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB
4GB RAM DDR2
550 Watt Power Supply

Edit: and a 640GB Hitachi 16 MB Buffer HDD

Try intalling using only one stick of memory and see if it works, keep switching out sticks to see if any get it to install. Hits online point toward bad ram.

alright, thanks. I'm going to try that if my friend's test doesnt find the solution. He says that since Vista and 7 boot up an OS to install Windows and Windows XP doesn't it might work to install XP first then upgrade to 7 RC1. Because all the things online also say that it occurs for people when they are already running an OS. and my HDD has no OS on it currently.

Thanks!

It doesn't make sense to install xp first and then upgrade to vista. Do a clean install if you can. You could have a bad hard drive as well. Download the drive makers disc utility and run it and see what it says.

thats the thing.
i cant do a clean install of vista or 7 without getting that error. So far XP is doing fine. Its at the formatting stage, taking forever as usual since its a 640gb HDD. so once that finishes, i hope i dont get that error. And it is a brand new Hitachi HDD.

ok after i tried that i got this error

Code:
*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC000005, 0xF74283F7, 0xF6FDE808, 0x00000000)

*** setupdd.sys - Address F74283F7 base at F73EC000, DateStamp 41107c8f

i will now try the one stick of RAM test.

The drive could still be bad....

ok the one stick of RAM made us get farther. for the 7 install we got to where the nice wallpaper comes up. but then it just froze at that wallpaper everytime. For XP: it got to the screen with the steps on the left side and then it gave the blue screen again with this error.

Code:
*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x8054ADF2, 0xF6C95908, 0x00000000)

Beginning dump of physical memory

edit: i tried the HDD in my other computer and it could be read fine.
